We have all been affected in one way or another by the coronavirus pandemic. Not just our health systems, but our economies, societies and way of life have suffered. The EU is doing all it can to assist those in need, both within and beyond our borders, and to support scientific research and innovation to protect us against the virus in the future.

The €806.9 billion* recovery package, NextGenerationEU, will help European citizens, Member States and partner countries emerge from the crisis stronger and more resilient for a greener, more sustainable and more digital future.

The EU started acting as soon as the pandemic struck. Here are a few stories of people overcoming the crisis with a little help from the Union. From Italian farmers to Croatian teachers to German small business owners, they have been able to weather the storm and can now give back to their communities and society at large.

*This figure is in current prices. It amounts to €750 billion in 2018 prices.
